"A lone wolf type around the same age as the Summoners' Guild Master, with no family or social ties to speak of in Tokyo. Though human, he lives his life much as a stray Transient would, drifting from place to place and constantly shifting alliances, always ensuring he leaves no trace of his involvement after parting ways. One such alliance left a mark on him, however, as he was once a member of a now-defunct gang in the Ikebukuro underground, and still retains a bit of his look from those days. Aside from that, the only real clue even to his past lies in a vague memory of a family somewhere outside of Tokyo, with whom he cried, laughed, and lived together. That, and a loose end he's left dangling by finishing off a certain someone with his own two hands—a loose end that, if taken care of, will ensure Kirito has absolutely nothing left tying him to Tokyo anymore at all. He would be like an actor who's stepped down from the stage and left the theater. Perhaps he could even leave his knife with the audience before he departs, just to prove he was even there in the first place. He only ever seems to feel any sympathy at all for others who, like himself, have no roots of any kind left in this world."

"Kirito's Sacred Artifact is a Knife that's said to have once belonged to an infamous serial killer in a foggy city lined with theaters. The exact details of the serial murders in question remain a mystery, and have been exaggerated so much over the decades that they've left indelible marks on what constitutes a good urban legend or sensationalist scoop ever since. The only facts of the case that seem consistent from one account to another are the victim's targets all being women of ill repute, and the gruesome details of how they were killed, the latter made clear by the body parts present at the scenes of his crimes. Most relevant to the Sacred Artifact, however, is that the perpetrator has never been identified, and the belief that he never will be has been imbued into the Knife itself, giving it a Rule that allows its bearer to hide without a trace in a thick fog. Sadly, this Rule is extremely poorly suited to the Game in Tokyo, with any element of surprise it might otherwise afford nullified by the App automatically displaying data on all opponents as soon as a Battle Zone is engaged. Only those with administrative access could even theoretically circumvent this. As a result, Kirito's only real recourse with this Rule is to use it for getaways, since he's able to flee any scene without being followed. Being a lone wolf type, the one thing Kirito hates most of all is family, of any sort."
