Missionaries - City of Dogmas, Aoyama
Chapter 4: Missionaries -Dogma City, Aoyama- is the fourth accessible Chapter of the Main Quest, set between the Shinjuku and Shibuya Wards. It consists of six scenarios, most of which have multiple parts.
In this Chapter, the Protagonist, while visiting the Missionaries guild to discuss stabilizing their new guild, gets caught up in a fiasco involving deceit, a missing guild member, and a pop star's obsessive stalker.
Not long after the debacle at the Berserkers base, Lil' Salomon abruptly wakes up the Protagonist, informing them they intend to keep track of what his master does now that he's in charge of a guild. After Mononobe checks in on them and classes let out, Shiro sets up a meeting for the guild. After he fills the two in on what he learned about guilds, he says he intends to find out about the power of the The App by contacting the Game Masters, the mysterious figures that control how the App works and formed their guild out of necessity as he didn't know any Guild Master who was willing to do it for him. However, he found out that this is impossible at present as, without having the accepted number of people in their ranks and a public area to serve as the guild's Portal, they're stuck in temporary status. While he works things out with Andvari in order to secure a Portal site, Shiro reveals he invited Ryota as their newest member. Ryota explains he's had a Chalice Sacred Artifact for a while but, as he never knew how to activate it, had to ask a friend outside the school for help on how to use it. This works out for Shiro and the others as the person in question is the acting Guild Master for a guild in Aoyama, and they all agree to head out together to get whatever information they can.
Upon arriving at the area where they were to meet Ryota's contact, Kengo immediately becomes annoyed as they're standing on the grounds of Daikanyama Academy, a fact Shiro claimed was illegal to be used as a Portal, though Shiro checked around and found out that the Academy is listed as a college, and as such, is considered acceptable as a Portal. However, they are immediately accosted by angels associated with the guild who claim that the group is 'in contempt of [their] commandments'. This causes Kengo to blow a gasket, dragging the group into a fight.
As the battle heats up, Ryota attempts to use his Sacred Artifact to help the others. However, as he still has no idea how to use it, his ploy winds up being nothing more than a badly times bluff. Fortunately, the fighting is stopped by the leader of the angels, Zabaniyya, and the acting Guild Master of the Missionaries, Maria. Maria apologizes to the group for not informing the angels that she was expecting guests ahead of time before starting a tour of the church that adjoins the Academy grounds and smoothing over the lingering hostility between Kengo and the angels. As Ryota and Shiro as their respective questions, Kengo, despite Shiro's protestations, instigates a 'sparring match' with Zabaniyya in an attempt to see how strong he is.
Despite the number of blows dealt by Kengo, Zabaniyya doesn't counter them or show interest in the match, claiming he only puts in the effort against people he feels deserve it. After Shiro stops Kengo from doing anything stupid, the group is approached by Azazel, a clergyman in charge of the Missionaries' charity work, who informs Maria of an incident starting to take place at a park and asks the Protagonist's group to go with her to see how their guild functions.
As the group heads to the park in question, Kengo is still visibly upset with Zabaniyya's unwillingness to fight. Azazel calms him down and explains that Zabaniyya was his world's torturer, but, despite being good at it, became disillusioned about the direction his life was going. He also mentions that the Missionaries are the largest guild in Tokyo due to their desire to help those struggling through life.
Upon arriving at the park, Maria leads them to an area where where the Missionaries distribute food to the poor. She explains that this practice was started due to the sheer number of Transients that didn't have the resources necessary to adapt to living in Tokyo. Their conversation is soon interrupted by Choji, a member of Shinjuku Academy's cooking club who works part time as the Missionaries' chef. After introductions are passed around, Choji directs the group to the source of the incident Azazel mentioned: a group of Transients fighting over how much food they'll get. Despite Maria's insistence of handling the problem herself, the Protagonist's group dives in to help her deal with it.
Once the fighting is taken care of, Maria asks the Transients why they were fighting in the first place. They tell her that an unknown party claimed that the Missionaries have been unfairly controlling how much food they got based on past indiscretions, but when they look around, the mysterious instigator had used the riot as cover for their escape. The problem is amplified when angels from the guild threaten to kick the rioters out of the guild's territory, forcing Maria to come up with a cover story to get them to back off. Azazel calls Maria out on this, but, despite Maria saying she doesn't deserve any pity from him, agrees not to mention it as he knows she did the right thing. She returns to the group in time to see Ryota complain about not getting any of Choji's food. Maria tries to ease Ryota's 'fictitious illness' by offering some pudding as they accompany her to another one of the Missionaries duties, but he's to depressed about missing a chance to eat to care. As Ryota fantasizes about what the pudding would taste like, he unconsciously has his Sacred Artifact fill up with it. As Ryota eats up, the conversation turns to how Sacred Artifacts work, with Maria, after warning the group not to reveal too much about how theirs work in order to keep them from being misused by the wrong people, gives them more insight on how powerful the Rules their artifacts possess can be and that it's up to the wielder to decide how the Rule is used.
Later, the group heads to a hospital in response to a call Maria had to take. They meet the doctor who called, Mineaki, who leads the group to a ward with injured Transients the hospital hasn't been able to properly treat. To Ryota's shock, Maria uses her Sacred Artifact's power to absorb the pain the patients are in, but winds up wiping herself out from overexertion. Mineaki advises Ryota to let her rest up on her own as he treats the group to lunch. However, when the Protagonist doubles back to get Mineaki's wallet, they find Maria being harassed by a group of ninjas, but Maria subdues several with thorns emanating from her Sacred Artifact, as the Protagonist deals with the rest.
Despite the attempts the ninjas make to attack her, Maria's thorns make it impossible for them to get near her, forcing them to abandon one member of their group and escape. Maria informs the Protagonist that, just as there are Transients who struggle in the public eye, there are also Transients who use deceitful means in order to survive. As Maria releases the captured ninja, Ryota, who was wondering why the Protagonist was taking so long, walking in with the others. The distraction allows several angels to come in. They inform Maria that, after the disappearance of another guild member, Arsalan, they've been shadowing the remaining guild leaders in case they were attacked. However, when Maria begins to openly question their methods after they say Zabaniyya will head the interrogation, the angels, upset about Maria's expansion of the Missionaries territory and membership and suspicious that she had something to do with Arsalan's disappearance, suddenly turn on her. Despite Ryota's attempts to get them to co-exist, the angels continue to taunt Maria, claiming she has no understanding of their feelings. Fortunately, the argument is interrupted by Gabriel, a celebrity pop star associated with the Missionaries, who diffuses the situation with her presence alone. As the angel leave in pursuit of the ninja, who escaped in the chaos, Gabriel invites the group to a concert she's holding at the hospital, though she literally has to drag Kengo into going.
As the concert hits intermission, the group are impressed by how good Gabriel's music is. Maria explains that Gabriel's Sacred Artifact has the power to calm people, though she never uses it during concerts as her star power is enough to do the job for her. However, she's become worried that members of the guild have become distrustful of anyone different from them ever since Arsalan disappeared.
Cut to Missionaries church, the angels bring the ninja who escaped to Zabaniyya. Despite the ninja's claim that he won't reveal anything to him, Zabaniyya informs him that his Sacred Artifact's power to cause unending pain will eventually force him to talk.
Cut to hospital. Mineaki is approached by several ninjas, who he chastises for going back on their word by attacking a place he was working at. The ninjas apologize and explain to Mineaki, their apparent superior, that their only intention was to expose a secret Maria has been keeping in order to destabilize the Missionaries.
Cut to concert hall. As the group continues to wait out intermission to end, the Protagonist runs into Hati, Gabriel's self appointed top fan, during a zerg rush for Gabriel's merchandise, who offers to help them get through the chaos in order to get through to the merch stand.
After fighting his way through the crowd and getting multiple copies of the photobook he was after, Hati thanks the Protagonist for the help and gives the a pin that symbolizes that they're part of Hati's 'Gabriel fan club'. However, he becomes visibly upset when Maria says that Gabriel wishes to speak with Ryota and the Protagonist over him.
